Graff, Quotes and that

"In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present." - Francis Bacon this quote goes very well with the costumeology workshop we did the other week. Also reminded me of this Graffiti Art outside Phoenix in Leicester, very similar...

Design

I've had a look at all the artists in the applied arts list thingy, they're not my sorta thing. So I started to look at things I do like, I started with impractical juicers by Philippe Starck then had a look at some lovely retro televisions by B&O designed by the recently deceased David Lewis.

Sketchbook planning and that, ayeeee

Bits and the bobs

Sara Fanelli

Gosh I really enjoyed looking at these wonderfully crafted illustrations, they remind me of those posh cards from the gift shop in Nottingham Contemporary. This piece I like because of the different media used to create her characters, which are always identifiable as hers, Fanelli is like McDonalds in that sense. She's more pizza express actually, she's done some design work for them too which is very nice, all very similar colours though. I will include the Soho image she made for Pizza Express, which is quite delicate, like what she is describing a thin pizza with a hole in the middle filled with posh salad leaves.

Stefan Sagmeister

I have just read an article about Sagmeister, about an exhibition he did in LA called The Happy Show, it was all about his Journey finding happiness, exploring what he think will make people happy, capitalist ideology (buy this, it will make you happier). He seems to be a very honest man, I like that in a person, he's telling us the truth about his feelings. He's searching for an answer but not lying about the fact he hasn't found it and that it doesn't matter, I suppose. I like the way he has presented his work like a sketchbook/journal onto walls, its a very effective and interesting way to present text both hand written and computerised. Here are some images I have found of the exhibition from the article:

An article about The Ride Journal from CR's Blog

http://www.creativereview.co.uk/cr-blog/2014/january/the-ride-journal-issue-8

I chose this article because it's amusing in the way it is an arts magazine that has wrote an article about a journal that specialises in cycling but it is mostly filled with illustrations. Yah.

Dystopia

Dystopia an exhibition by Clay Smith.

(I think) Beautifully Uncomfortable ideas of the worlds society, challenging reality, its confusing systems in place and relationships between individuals and the very real darkness dictating us, our everyday life's, how alone we all are, I felt scared but also felt how we all live with very narrow views of the world, often missing out on things because of how we are programmed to not be aware of seemingly bigger consciousnesses.

Not just another photographer but a great and aware artist who is tackling life through art

quotes about the senses

True  silence is the rest of the mind, it is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment - William Penn

For the sense of smell, almost more than any other, has the power to recall memories and it is a pity that we use it so little - Rachel Carson
